As the curtain rises on the enchanting world of Chitty Chitty Bang, audiences are whisked away into a delightful realm of song, dance, and pure imagination. Based on the beloved 1968 film and Ian Fleming’s novel, this musical adaptation, with a vibrant score by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, captivates both young and old, making it a quintessential family experience.

The performances in this production are truly standout. Adam Garcia as Caractacus Potts delivers a charming portrayal, perfectly capturing the spirit of a whimsical inventor with a heart full of love for his children. Huxley Syers as Jeremy and Melody Caruana as Jemima Potts radiate youthful energy and innocence, creating a genuine sense of joy that resonates throughout the theatre. Their chemistry with Ellie Nunn playing Truly Scrumptious is palpable, and together they bring an undeniable charm that draws the audience into their world. Liam Fox delivers in his role as Grandpa Potts (he actually sounded like the original) and The Vivienne plays The Childcatcher superbly well who of course had plenty of “boos”. A special mention to Adam Stafford who played Boris and Michael Joseph who played Goran, every scene they appeared in was hilarious with expert comedy timing.

This show is a feast for the ears, featuring iconic numbers such as “Chitty Chitty Bang, Bang” “You Two,” and “Hushabye Mountain.” The choreography, beautifully crafted by Karen Bruce, elevates the musical numbers, making standout moments that are visually stunning and indicative of the era’s playful spirit. The ensemble cast executes the lively routines with precision and exuberance, especially during the spectacular “Flying” sequence that leaves the audience in awe.

The set design by Morgan Large is a marvel, transforming the stage into an imaginative playground that reflects the magical essence of the story. With colourful backdrops and meticulous details that transport audiences from the Potts’ workshop to the whimsical land of Vulgaria, the visual storytelling is impressive. The costumes are equally enchanting, vibrant, and period-appropriate, enriching the characters and adding depth to the overall experience.

Directed by Thom Southerland, the production flows seamlessly, balancing moments of humour and heart. The narrative is engaging, and the pacing allows audiences to indulge in the whimsical adventures without feeling rushed. The director’s ability to connect with the cast enhances emotional moments, especially in scenes that explore family, love, and the power of imagination.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a joyous celebration of creativity and family values, perfectly suited for audiences of all ages. The combination of stellar performances, captivating music, and imaginative design creates an enchanting experience that sticks with you long after the final curtain call. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of the story or a newcomer to the magical world of Chitty, this production promises an unforgettable night of theatre.
